Bush suddenly announced “a new plan to explore space and extend a human presence across our solar system ….”  This surprising announcement not only called for a new spacecraft, launch vehicle and astronaut program to resume lunar exploration … it also envisioned an ultimate extension of that program to the planet Mars!

What really lies behind this sudden White House decision, in the middle of a global “War on Terror,” to “return humans to the Moon” ... and someday send them to the Far Beyond?
